Description
This is a nice chunk of raw cuprite with chrysocolla I found in the Arizona desert during one of my rock-hounding adventures.
Cuprite is formed through the oxidation of copper minerals. It forms when native copper is weathered by oxidation (the presence of moisture and oxygen), which then creates this gorgeous red coating. Malchite crystals can even form on the cuprite!
This particular piece I found in Superior at an old mining site. It does not have malachite crystals on it, but it did however, form some tiny chrysocolla crystals on it that make it even sweeter. Sometimes I take the rocks I make and cut them, and polish them into beautiful cabochons for making jewelry. But this pretty rock was too cool to cut up. This rock would make the perfect gift for someone with an awesome rock collection. This rock would be great decor for indoors, on a rock stand, or even an awesome addition to your rock garden.
