Rare Cuprite Mineral Specimen with Chrysocolla

Description

I found this beautiful piece of raw cuprite with chrysocolla during one of my rock-hounding adventures in the Arizona desert. Cuprite is formed through the oxidation of copper minerals. It occurs when native copper is weathered by the presence of moisture and oxygen, resulting in a stunning red coating. Malachite crystals can occasionally form on cuprite as well!

This particular piece was discovered in Superior at an old mining site. While it doesn’t have malachite crystals, it does feature some tiny chrysocolla crystals that add to its charm. Sometimes, I take the rocks I find, cut them, and polish them into beautiful cabochons for jewelry making. However, this stunning rock was too special to alter. It would make a perfect gift for anyone with an impressive rock collection. This piece would also serve as great decor for indoors, displayed on a rock stand, or as an incredible addition to a rock garden.
